12/17/24 Meeting with Supervisors Hana Leper and Michael Bowditch

In my December meeting with Hana and Michael, we first talked about the paper Hana wrote and gave me to read about photographer and artist Vanessa Bell.  After reading that I realized that Hana is the perfect supervisor for me because we are both passionate about the same kind of artist and that I have so much to learn from her.  I also appreciate Michael's art in that it is similar to mine with it's repetitiveness of objectivity to mine.

They suggested I do a blog post about how reading Hana's paper will inform my installation making.  Michael mentioned his thesis which was about how his mom photographs and passing on familial questions through family photos.  Thinking about what it feels like to photograph and be photographed.

We talked about Cindy Sherman's way of working where she inhabited other's clothes, personality, way of thinking.  It was really a form of theater.

Michael mentioned a former MFA student named Nethery Wylie, who studies the "intersection of memory and history within the family archives".   We talked about, based on Hana's paper, making images that put generations of women from one family in the same image.

On December 19th, I met with Lucie Bauer, longtime friend and form art history professor from Dartmouth College.  We talked about how to revise my proposal and about her favorite painter, Pontormo.
